American Bar Association Law Student Division Grant Program
Grant Program • Recognizing that law student groups need funding to sponsor new programs and activities, the ABA Law Student Division established a Grant Fund to provide financial assistance. • By assisting law student organizations in launching new activities, the ABA Law Student Division can ensure that law students’ academic experiences include a rich diversity of educational events run by their peers.
Grant Program The Division’s Grant Program was created to provide financial and program support to student organizations of ABA-approved law schools for newly established programs and other activities that: • Provide professionalism and ethics training • Promote diversity in legal education and the legal profession • Advance public interest efforts • Advance public service efforts
Grant Parameters • Student organizations that are developing “first-time” programs or activities promoting diversity, ethics and professionalism training, public service or public interest are eligible to apply for a Division grant. • Approved applications may receive up to $500 (maximum award), depending on the nature of the project and the availability of funds.
The Division grants are designed to “assist” student organizations achieve a successful first-time event. • The grants are not intended to serve as the full or primary source of funding. The student group is expected to bring some other funding to the table • By helping student groups achieve a successful first-time event, the Division anticipates that the student group will thereafter find financial support from the dean, SBA or other organization for the event in successive years.
Grant Exclusions The Grant Program is NOT intended to: • Support fundraisers (school golf outing to raise $$ for school scholarship fund) • Be used as a financial source for donating funds to charitable organizations (school auction to raise money for local charity) • Be a source for funding student travel to conferences, study abroad programs, etc
