  1. Multiplying and Dividing Integers

  2. Quick Review • Adding Integers: Positive + Positive = Positive Negative + Negative = Negative Positive + Negative = Whatever the larger number is, take that sign. Subtracting Integers: (+) - (+) = (+) + (-)= ? (subtract the absolute values) (-) - (-) = (-) + (+)= ? (subtract the absolute values) (+) - (-) = (+) + (+)= (+) (add the absolute values) (-) - (+) = (-) + (-)= (-) (add the absolute values)

  3. Multiplying Two Integers with Different Signs • Example: • Words: The product of two integers with different signs is negative. • 4(-3)=-12 -3(4)= -12

  4. Multiplying Two Integers with the Same Sign • Example: • Word: The product of two integers with same sign is positive. • 4(3) =12 • -4(-3)= 12

  5. Multiplying More than Two Integers • Know your rules!!! • Two same signs= Positive • Two different signs= Negative • -2 x -4 x -6 = • Pos xNeg = Neg

  6. Dividing Integers with the Same Sign. Example: • Words: The quotient if two integers with the same sign is positive. • -12 ÷ (-3)=4 • 12÷ 3= 4

  7. Dividing Integers with Different Signs Example: • Words: The quotient of two integers with different sign is negative. • -12÷ 4= -3 • 12÷ (-4)= -3
