CS1 • Begin using English for academic communication • Develop good study habits • Consider time management • Discuss approaches to language learning • Become familiar with the campus and facilities • Develop oral communication skills • Build fluency • Develop discussion skills • Learn and practice strategies to manage communication difficulties • AW1-4 • CS 2-4 • AR 1-5 • AL 1 & 2 AEP
Presentation Skills Objective: To foster the proficiency to present opinions in presentation form
CS2 • Focus • language for oral presentations • basic presentation structure • process approach to preparing for presentations • appropriate delivery techniques • use of visual aids (limited) • Incorporate activities to build • oral fluency • confidence • Guidelines • at least three 2- to 3-minute graded presentations • practice peer/self evaluation
CS3 • Carry on with skills from CS2 • Practice dealing with questions • Develop summarizing / paraphrasing skills • Deliver at least three 4-to 5-minute graded presentations
presenting material from outside sources • identifying and evaluating sources critically • building paraphrasing and summarizing skills • Developing skills for unscripted/spontaneous oral interaction – Q&A sessions • Engaging the audience rather than delivering a script • 15-minute presentation on topic related to major CS4
