Philosophical Views • Essentialism • Students are taught the “essential” knowledge of language, math, science, history, social studies, etc. • Perennialism • Wisdom or knowledge has been accumulated over the years and can be found in the great works of literature, arts, and religious texts, e.g. Bible and Qur’an. • Progressivism • The child is the center of the educational process. Children learn by doing interesting things and useful things that relate to their lives. They learn through traditional texts and hands-on activities.
Philisophical Views • Social Reconstructionism: • Schools should provide a social and political order by emphasizing moral, political, and economic education. • Existentialism • Rejects the idea of any type of definitive knowledge and maintain that students know from within what is best for them to pursue.
