Expectations for 3rd Graders • Try your BEST. • Listen carefully and follow directions. • Be respectful to self and others. • Keep hands, feet, and unkind comments to yourself. • Smile and be helpful. • Learn something new each day. • Take responsibility for self and actions.
Class Created Rules • Our class government created the following rules/laws to follow. 1. In our classroom we RESPECT learning. -Follow directions the 1st time they’re given. -Raise your hand. -Pay attention and participate. 2. In our classroom we RESPECT ourselves. -Work hard. -Tell the truth. -Be proud of yourself. 3. In our classroom we RESPECT others. -Talk at the right times, and don’t distract your neighbor. - Help people. - Use school, teacher, and classmates’ property properly.
3B Class Chance Slips • Students are rewarded for positive behaviors. Following classroom procedures, rules, and directions. • Adding insightful information to discussions. • Creating neat, well checked, or improved work. • Using good manners. • Working well together. • Extra-helpful or kind behaviors See website for “Stay in The Game” info.
Homework • Homework is written daily in the homework journal which is located in your child’s orange take home folder. • Third grade students should spend about 30 minutes on average to complete homework assignments. • Third graders are also encouraged to read daily. • I suggest 15 minutes of independent reading a day as well as reading out loud to practice fluency. • Completing a monthly book log will be counted as homework credit, and rewarded with a Pizza Hut coupon.

Storytown • Students will receive new spelling words each Monday and will be tested each Friday, unless otherwise notified. • Robust Vocabulary will be defined, used in sentences, and discussions each week. • Reading Focus will be in 2 week cycles. • Comprehension, vocabulary, and skills for each lesson will be assessed on Fridays, unless notified otherwise.
GoMath! • Third grade will be using GoMath! and other resources to teach real world problem solving skills. • Addition and Subtraction within 1,000. • Represent and Interpret Data • Understand Multiplication Concepts, Facts, and Strategies • Third graders are required to memorize Multiplication facts 0-9 and will practice 10-12 facts as well. • Count Money and Make Change • Tell Time and Calculate Elapsed Time • Geometry – 2-dimensional shapes &perimeter and area • Measurement – length, mass, capacity • Understand and Compare Fractions • Understand Division Concepts, Facts, and Strategies.

Reminders • Morning Tutoring—by invitation on Tuesdays and Thursdays • Field trip—will take place in May 2014 • Conferences—will take place in November—sign-up tonight! Take a post-it to remember the time you selected. • Wellness Walk will be held on October 4—all MVES donations come back to our school
