Who am I • I live locally and my wife Tracy and I have 2 children. • My son graduated from AHS and is now attending DCC as a second semester freshman. My daughter is a sophomore at AHS and plays volleyball, basketball and softball. • I worked for IBM for many years and am now a Teacher. • I also have for many sports. This summer I helped coach my daughters team and we finished 5th is the Softball World Series in Salisbury, MD. jjacobs@acsdny.org Phone: 845.486.4480
What is MAPSS • Math Applications and Problem Solving Skills • This year NYS has adopted the follow new Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS). • My students are students who have struggled with math. It is my job to help them understand math using different methods. While keeping pace with the other teachers at the grade level. • Lower number of students in the classroom allows for more student / teacher time. • Extra class period, on A or B days. jjacobs@acsdny.org Phone: 845.486.4480
Expectations for students • Come to class prepared – see side board. • Almost every night students will have homework. If students have an extra period, they will be able to complete their homework. • If work is missed do to an excusable absence, it is up to the student to get and complete the work. • Students will abide by the 4 pillars: Respect / Responsibility / Integrity / Safety jjacobs@acsdny.org Phone: 845.486.4480
Expectations from teacher • I will return emails and phone calls as soon as possible. Grades • A combination of points based on the following: • 35% of grade - Test major assignments and projects. • 30% of grade – Homework assignments – worksheets, BuzzMath.com, Accelerated Math and/or IXL.com. This will depend on the number of topics we cover. • 30% of grade – Class work – Completion of class work including: class participation, Accelerated Math, writing notes and quizzes • 5% of grade – Extra credit / Passes jjacobs@acsdny.org Phone: 845.486.4480
WEBSITES • Parents are encouraged to look at the student progress at least weekly . • Ask your child for their sign on info. If you have a problem please contact me. • Each WEB assignment should take no more than 5 minutes. Many students complete the assignment in less than 2 minutes.
