The Timucua Tribe By Max, Emily o, and Brandon
About where they lived… • They settled in central Florida. • They may have been the first Native Americans to see Spanish explorers when they landed in Florida.
Life in the village • In Timucuan villages, most of the time there are two kinds of houses. • One referred to a long house which was built by using poles for frames and wood for walls. • The other home was a circular shape and covered with leaves.
Hunting and fishing • These Native Americans were skilled fisherman and hunters like many other people. • They used clubs, bows, arrows, spears, and blowguns to kill animals. • They would kill bears, deer, wild turkey, and alligators to eat and use for clothing.
War and disease • During the years of 1649 -1656 of the Timucuan tribe began to vanish. • Although these Native Americans were one of the most peaceful tribes, they would fight when pushed to do so. • The most major disease was smallpox.
