Element of the day • 84 - Polonium – Po • Polonium occurs naturally in uranium ores and was discovered by Marie and Pierre Curie and named after their native Poland. • Polonium can also be made by bombarding bismuth (83) with intense neutron beams. • Polonium is used in anti-static brushes used on film negatives. • As little as 10 nano-grams (ten one-billionths of a gram) of polonium can be fatal if ingested.
