  2. What was Matilda’s school like? What kind of head was Miss Trenchbull? How did the children feel going to her school? How might you improve Crunchem Hall Primary School?

  3. What is good about Liss Junior? With a partner discuss the good things about Liss Junior School. Can you come up with 5 things to share?

How could you make LJS even better? • This is a competition working in groups across the school. • You have to identify one thing that would make the school better. • It must benefit everyone in the school. • You have a budget of £5000. This is not a lot of money. • You will need to work in groups. • You will need to use all sorts of skills to put together your plan • The best entry from each class will present to the school on Friday week • There is also a national competition. We could enter the best idea in the school and see if we could really win £5000 to make the idea a reality

  5. What happened when Kafuro considered the school they’d like? The nursery class in 2012 when Mr Stanley first visited

  6. Thanks to the work of pupils, staff and the community, the class is now in much better condition.

Some ideas that other schools have come up with in the past • garden to tackle bullying and teach students about green issues. •  outdoor activity area with flowers, benches and grassy area for games. •  farm to teach students how to grow their own food. • learning exchange activity group for students to interact with adults from a wide cross section of the community. • playground for key stage 2 students to develop communication, empathy, creativity and problem solving. • bring library into the 21st century and improve reading skills with Kindles, audio books and new test applications. • a new climbing frame and playground equipment for exercise and learning. • development of outdoor art studio, as well as water facilities, for science and art lessons. •  iPads to teach students how to play musical instruments. • a community choir which would bring the whole school together. • And last year’s winner…….. • a scheme to produce electricity generated from pedalling fixed bikes in the school's playground. The electricity generated was used to run a school radio station.

  8. A few tips • Try to think of several ideas. • Examine the strengths and weaknesses of each idea. This will help you to decide on which idea is best. • Teamwork is really important! • Think carefully about how your idea will benefit all the different people in school: the children, the teachers, the parents, the governors.
