Rectangle #1 • Length = 12 in • Width = 6 in • To find the perimeter of a rectangle we use the formula P=2l+2w. Therefore the perimeter of rectangle #1 = 2(12)+2(6)=24+12=36in. • To find the area of a rectangle we use the formula A=l x w. Therefore the area of rectangle #1 = 12 x 6 = 72 square inches.
Rectangle #2 • Length = 5in • Width = 14 in • To find the perimeter of a rectangle we use the formula P=2l+2w. Therefore the perimeter of rectangle #2 = 2(5)+2(14)=10+28=38in. • To find the area of a rectangle we use the formula A=l x w. Therefore the area of rectangle #2 = 5x 14 = 70 square inches.
Rectangle #3 • Length = 15 in • Width = 2 in • To find the perimeter of a rectangle we use the formula P=2l+2w. Therefore the perimeter of rectangle #3 = 2(15)+2(2)=30+4=34in. • To find the area of a rectangle we use the formula A=l x w. Therefore the area of rectangle #3 = 15 x 2 = 30 square inches.
Real Life Applications • Farmers will need to know how to find the perimeter of a rectangle if they need to know how much fencing to buy. • House builders will need to know how to find the area of a rectangle if they are laying a tile floor.
