Renzo Piano • 1998 Pritzker Architecture Prize winner. • Educated in Milan Polytechnic School of Architecture. • Work includes: The Pompidou Centre and The J M Tjibaru Cultural Centre. • Interested in technology, pre-fabrication and fine craftship. • Used quite a lot of timber (compare with other Pritzker Prize winners) and louvres (used as outer skin to block direct sun light). • Used a lot of repetitions, easy to be pre-fabricated and mass-produced.
Timber Portal Frames • There are a lot of different styles of timber portal frames. • Some timber portal frames could be with a hinge for easy erection, as shown in the previous slide. • Some are made with columns and rafters, with a fixed steel bracket connecting them, as shown in this slide.
My Proposal • Double box timber portal frame, which could span the whole 40m, with a height of 9.8m (similar to the CSR store building in Cardiff, NSW. • Pre-fabricated toilets and kitchen units units for office space. • Timber walkway as upper level of warehouse (simple timber framing construction), for managers to observe operation in warehouse floor. • Pre-fabricated, louvred windows.
