Key Areas for Development • Primary Care Mental Health Services. • Children & Adolescent Mental Health Services. • Improving Access to Psychological Services in specialist services. • Services for people with Early Onset Dementia, including Alcohol Related Brain Damage (ARBD). • Psychiatric Liaison Services. • Dementia Services.
Primary Care Mental Health Services • Detailed service review • Implementation plan developed. • Current provision, Wirral PCT & CWP. • New service model IAPT driver for change. • New ways of working, seamless pathways. considerable investment. • New model service standards – All patients referred will be seen for assessment and treatment within 10 working days. • Service will work in partnership with Third Sector. • Promotion of Social Prescribing Model.
CAMHS • Significant investment • Development plans include:- • Establishing a multi-systemic service • Improving psychological input in schools • Provision of ‘wrap around’ intensive home support for those with most complex needs
Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) • National programme. • Develop provision of psychological therapies in in-patient services. • Enhance the local model of Eating Disorder Services via sessional input from Consultant Psychiatrist.
Early Onset Dementia • Develop service to meet local need. • Increasing number of people with Alcohol Related Brain Damage – delayed discharges in acute care. • Current service does not have capacity to undertake assessments and care management of people with ARBD. • Estimated increase in patients with ARBD. • Enhance current Early Onset Dementia service by increasing service criteria and workforce. • Develop day care services for people with Early Onset Dementia in partnership with Age Concern. • Utilise specialist and skilled in reach from qualified nursing provided by CWP.
Adults with ADHD • No current provision for people over age of 19. • Work commenced with CWP to ‘test out’ an assessment and follow up clinic with small group of patients. • Project Team established to develop an agreed local model of care. • Anticipated NICE guidance will act as further driver.
Psychiatric Liaison Services • PCT commissioned a review of service currently provided by CWP. • Reasons for review: • Internal inquiry into Homicide • Maternity Services Review • Review agreed within contract with CWP • Review will be completed by 31 March 2008. • Interim arrangements pending outcome of review to extend the service to provide cover 12 hours per day/7 days per week.
Dementia Pathway • PCT commissioned a Project Manager to develop a whole system pathway for dementia care. • Acknowledged and anticipated increase of dementia of Wirral population. • Pathway will extend from first identification to end of life. • Pathway intended to be linked to Map of Medicine. • Range of different methods have been used to consult with stakeholders, including users and carers. • Workshop held on 5 March to inform ‘ ideal’ pathway and strategic developments. • Full report will be available 30 April 2008.
Rosewood Unit • Provides intensive rehabilitation for mental health service users with complex needs. • Unit opened March 2007 in response to an identified need to provide a rehabilitation service for service users with a diagnosis of severe mental illness and complex needs. • 15 bedded unit sited at Bowmere Hospital. • 8 Wirral residents currently placed there, 5 of those service users were returned from out of area placements, and the savings to the PCT in 2007/08 totalled £134,983.
