That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched--this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 1 John 1.1-3
Verse 1 • which we have heard • which we have seen with our eyes • which we have looked at • our hands have touched
People do not reject the Bible because it contradicts itself, but because it contradicts them.
We do not read the Bible in order to find out how to get God in our lives, or get Him to participate in our lives. That’s getting it backward. We talk of making the Bible relevant to the world as if the world is the fundamental reality and the Bible something that is going to help it or fix it. We talk of fitting the Bible into our lives or making room for the Bible in our day as if the Bible is something that we can add or squeeze into our lives. Eugene Peterson
It is the Spirit who still inspires the Scriptures today. • It is the Spirit who gathers people to hear the Bible today. • It is the Spirit who shepherds the people through the Word today. • It is the Spirit who opens the Word to hearts and minds of people today. • It is the Spirit who empowers people to live the Scriptures today.
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4.12
Not a book about, but a book for you.The Bible speaks to you, about you, through you , for you.
The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. John 14.10 • You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. John 15.3
The Bible is not a book to help us know more, but a book to help us become more.
All right knowledge of God is born of obedience. John Calvin, Institutes.
Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. Matthew 8.8 • Jesus replied, "You may go. Your son will live." The man took Jesus at his word and departed. John 4.50
