Objective: To demonstrate the use of wiki technology as an e-learning solution • CHALLENGE: • Budget/time constraints for training potential students • Classroom space shortage • CLASSIFIED network • NEED: • Online training accessible outside of a Learning Management System (LMS) • Easy to use solution with short learning curve • Engaging learning content • SOLUTION – a Wiki • Examples of three types of format • My Attempt

What is a wiki? • “A Wiki is a web site that allows members to collaboratively create and edit content. • Several people have can have editing rights to a site. • Some Wikis are private, where membership provides access… • Some Wikis are public, where members only have editing rights but anyone on the web can look at the content.” Source: http://elearning.swsi.wikispaces.net/

  4. Wiki Example 1: Layout Features • Features: • Page is divided into five sections with links to info • Content covers entire page • Horizontal tabs provide additional item links

  5. Wiki Example 2: Layout Features • Features: • Simple layout, with a clean look • Information aligned to the left • Links are located in one area • Navigation area on the right

  6. Wiki Example 3: Layout Features • Features: • Member login/restricted access • Three-column format with graphics and links to info and videos, polls, keyword searches • Navigation links horizontal at the top of the page
