  1. Living organisms, including humans, need energy to do what they do.

  2. Your tweet this week: • Finish the following sentence… • How does your body get energy to do what you want to do? • Can you think of some possible energy sources?

  3. HEAT is energy! • Heat released during burning is a form of energy. • People get energy by burning food. Food doesn’t burst into flames, but food provides energy for organisms to do what they need to do.

  4. Cheese Ball? • Do you think the cheese ball will burn? Why or why not?

  5. Energy? • Is there energy in the snack? • What evidence do you observe that suggests that there is energy? • How much energy is in a cheese ball? • How can you find out?

  6. Outcome: • What was the outcome of this experiment? • How will you find out how much energy is in a cheese ball?

  7. Reflection: • Based on this experiment do we have evidence that food has energy? • What evidence do you have that there is energy in food. • Why do people eat food? • What does energy drinks and energy bars contain that provide energy for people who consume them?

  8. Further Discussion: • Is water food? • Where do people get energy, besides food? • What units do we use to measure the energy in food? • How many calories does a cheese ball have?

  9. Further discussion: • How many cheese balls a day would you have to eat to get your daily requirement for calories? (average calories per day: 2,000) • Does that make sense?
