AFACT Registration as an NGO Apply for Consultative Status 1- Applying in ECOSOC website for Registration sector of UN http://www.un.org/esa/coordination/ngo 2- Receive a pack from UN NGO sector that contains many forms that should be fill out. 3- After you are notified that your profile registration was accepted, your organization has to submit the application, containing the online questionnaire and summary, and the supporting documents. Completed applications must be received by the first of June each year.
AFACT Registration as an NGO 4- NGO Branch screening of applications 5-TheCommitteeon Non-Governmental Organizations The Committee will recommend to the ECOSOC Council. 6- ECOSOCFinalDecision When the Council finally approves the Committee recommendation to grant consultative status to an NGO, official notification is sent by the Secretariat. NGOs granted General or Special consultative status must submit to the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations, every fourth year, a brief report of their activities, in particular regarding their contribution to the work of the United Nations The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations is a standing committee of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
AFACT Registration as an NGO General consultative status is reserved for large international NGOs whose area of work covers most of the issues on the agenda of ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies. They give their consultancy in general areas.They can attend in relevant sessions, give a presentation in front of government representatives, distribute their protocols. Their protocol should be less than 2000 words. They have to give a detail report of their activity each 4 years.
AFACT Registration as an NGO Special consultative status is granted to NGOs which have a special competence in, and are concerned specifically with, only a few of the fields of activity covered by the ECOSOC. They give their consultancy in special areas. They can attend in relevant sessions, give a presentation in front of government representatives, distribute their protocols. Their protocol should be less than 500words. They have to give a detail report of their activity each 4 years.
AFACT Registration as an NGO Roster consultative: Organizations that apply for consultative status but do not fit in any of the other categories are usually included in the Roster. They rarely give their consultancy to the related committee’s. Many of them are consultant for relative agencies and not the main committee. They can attend in sessions but do not have permission to talk and distribute their protocols. They also have to give a detail report each four years. NGOs that have formal status with other UN bodies or specialized agencies (FAO, ILO, UNCTAD, UNESCO, UNIDO, WHO and others), can be included on the ECOSOC Roster.
