Declaration of Independence • The Declaration of Independence was drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776. • The Declaration is at once the nation’s most cherished symbol of liberty and Jefferson’s most enduring monument. • Jefferson introduced “self-evident” truths and also set forth a list of grievances against the King in order to justify before the world the breaking of ties between the colonies and the mother country. • http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/declaration.html
United States Constitution • The Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the United States of America. • The Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787 by the Constitutional convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. • The Constitution has been amended twenty-seven times and the first ten amendments are known as the Bill of Rights.
