If you already have high cholesterol then it is recommended that you take cholesterol lowering medication to help bring it down to the right levels. If you are lucky enough not to have it then you definitely want to do everything you can to avoid it. The lifestyle changes explained below are simple enough for anyone to implement and have been proven to be very effective in lowering cholesterol in the body. 1.Eat healthier foods Adopting healthier eating habits means knowing the foods that you need to eat as well as the ones that you should avoid. Stay away from foods with saturated fats, like red meat, and Trans fats, like cookies. Instead eat more foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids, more soluble fiber and more whey protein. 2.Exercise more Even just moderate physical activity done several times every day can help lower your cholesterol significantly so you do not necessarily have to start going to the gym and lifting heavy weights- although that would be a good idea too if you can do it. Some of the physical activities that you can engage in daily include swimming laps, riding a bike to the workplace, jogging in the morning or even taking a brisk 15-20minute walk every day during your lunch break. 3.Quit smoking Smoking of cigarettes is one of the negative lifestyle habits that have been very closely linked to high cholesterol and if you do smoke then this is the time to finally put a stop to the habit. According to the results of multiple studies on the subject, your heart rate and blood pressure can begin to reduce within as little as 20 minutes after you quit smoking and your risk of heart disease could go down to half the risk for a smoker within a year after you quit smoking.
