Conquering the EOGs Dudley Shoals EOG Orientation May 13th and 15th, 2003
The victory campaign • 1. Know your enemy • 2. Prepare for battle • 3. Man your stations • 4. In the trenches • 5. War maneuvers • 6. Push on to victory!
Prepare for battle! • Get a good night’s sleep • Eat breakfast • Wear comfortable clothing • Arrive at school on time • Be CONFIDENT!
Man Your Stations! • Bring a jacket or sweater • Use the bathroom • Have good posture • Be alert • Don’t panic
IN THE TRENCHES • Don’t spend too much time coloring in circles. • Look ahead – do the easiest items first. • Don’t spend too much time on one question. • Circle questions you can’t answer and move on. You can go back and spend time on them later. • Put a big “?” by answers you aren’t sure about. You can go back and check them later. • Pace yourself. • Check, recheck and recheck AGAIN! • When the 5 minute warning is announced, check to make sure an answer is bubbled in for every question – even if you have to guess!
Math Maneuvers • The calculator is your ally (friend/helper), but BE CAREFUL! • Scout out ahead to find easy problems. • Word problems: Read the last sentence first, then read the whole question touching the words as you read. • Draw pictures, make lists. • Look at everything listed on a graph or chart before reading the question. • Look at EVERY answer BEFORE making a choice. • Watch out for an ambush! (every, each, about, not, except)
READING MANEUVERS • Read the questions before reading the selection. • Highlight “black and white,” “right there” type of questions. • Read all the answer choices. • Use the process of elimination. • Read all introductions, captions and words that are in italics.
PUSH ON TO VICTORY! • Don’t Retreat!(You’ve worked too hard to give up now—think – don’t panic!) • Stamp out “I Can’t!”(Whimps never win) • Never Underestimate the Enemy!(You might have made a mistake) • Fight to the very end!(Check over again) • Always believe ….
We Came, We Saw, We Conquered!
