Goal #1Student Placement Goal 1: By June 20th2014, 100% of the Stapleton students will be placed in balanced, heterogeneous, and equitable classrooms and/or clusters where the academics, social, and behavioral needs are considered.
Highlights/Action Steps • Teachers will fill out placement cards for each student in current class. • Grade level teachers will meet to construct heterogeneous, balanced classes. • Teachers will create alphabetized class lists by gender to submit to administration. • Administration will review class lists. • Specialists and support staff will have the opportunity to review class lists. • Class lists will be finalized. • Final class lists will be given to receiving teachers.
Goal #2New Inclusion Model Goal 2: By the end of the 2013-2014 school year, the Stapleton staff will work collaboratively to develop a comprehensive inclusion plan. The plan will be shared with all school stakeholders in order to better address the increasing numbers of special education students in grades 1-5.
Highlights/Action Steps • Several meetings were held with each grade level. • There was a goal of evenly distributing the staff ratio throughout the grade level based on the needs of the students. • Special Educators and General Educators had meetings to discuss new model for 2014-2015. • There was a book group which met around inclusion practices. • The TEC, Ronnie Kessler, will share information learned at various professional development meetings. • There will continue to be professional development around inclusion throughout the following school year. • There will be on going discussions around what is working and what is not working. • There will be a model of inclusion classrooms and clustering of SAGE students within classrooms.
Goal #3School Climate and Culture Goal 3: By December of 2014, the Stapleton staff will collaborate to cultivate a plan which creates an environment that is equitable, positive, inclusive, engaging and conducive to student learning.
Highlights/Action Steps • There will be continued “Community Meetings”: monthly, showcasing student work, celebrating “Student of Week” and recognizing “Golden Eagle”. • There will be daily announcements: 5thGrade students only, selecting students who are role-models. Students will earn the right to make the announcements. • There will be a “Weekly Memo”- informing staff of meetings and happenings within the building. • There will be established guidelines for “Student of the Week” that are consistently followed throughout the building at all grade levels. • There will be established “School Rules”, which will be followed and enforced school-wide. The rules will be posted and announced at the first community meeting in September. • Teachers will be the models of “Common Courtesy”, by giving it, showing it, being it and living it! • All staff members will be “ready to roll at 8:50” and staff will have specific duties they need perform on a daily basis. • The “Golden Eagle” must be revisited. It needs to be revised to be more effective and ensure accountability for all students.
Summary and Conclusions • This is a seven week plan, with Goal #3 continuing over into next school year. • The new administration will offer input into how to proceed with this work. • We know there is still a lot of work ahead of us. • Moving forward Stapleton’s School Improvement Plan, will be based on data from academic assessments.
