  1. Netiquette Rules By Crystal Gasell Designed for 4th and 5th Graders

  2. What is Netiquette? • Netiquette is a set of rules we use when we are on the Internet. • Follow the rules in order to stay safe on the web.

  3. When do these rules apply? • Anytime you are… • Chatting online • Using email • Posting to a discussion • Blogging • Playing online games

  4. Rule 1 • Be positive! Make sure your words are thoughtful and are not mean or cruel. If someone is mean to you online, stay calm, ignore the message, and tell an adult.

  5. Rule 2 • Use your own words! Do not copy words or images from the Internet. This is called plagiarism and it is wrong. Make sure to use your own words when describing something.

  6. Rule 3 • Use your best writing! Use proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation when you are writing online for school. Reread your words to make sure they make sense.

  7. Rule 4 • Follow directions! Only go to websites that you are instructed to view. Make sure to save all work in the right place. Listen carefully.

  8. Rule 5 • Be responsible! Report bad behaviors, odd or suspicious messages, or inappropriate material to the adult in charge.

  9. Rule 6 • Stay safe! Keep personal information such as your name, school, phone number, and password to yourself.

  10. Why are these rules important? • The Internet is a great place to locate information, learn new things, share your thoughts and ideas, and communicate with others, but in order to stay safe and get the most out of the Internet, you must follow these rules!
