ELEMENT OF THE DAY • 11- Sodium – Na • Sodium, along with the other alkali metals, can be cut with a knife • Sodium reacts violently with water, giving off hydrogen gas and heat, causing an explosion. • Sodium forms sodium chloride, table salt. The other alkali metals form salts with chlorine as well, but they all have a metallic aftertaste. • Sodium hydroxide, also known as lye, can clear your drain or dissolve flesh from the bone with its high reactivity.
