Element of the day • 115 – Ununpentium – Uup • This is the placeholder name for element 115, which was first observed in 2003, and about 50 atoms of it have been synthesized. • Its initial discovery was in Dubna, Russia, but in 2013 teams in Darmstadt, Germany, and at GSI in Sweden claimed discovery as well – so it may be a verified and named element soon. • Its most stable isotope has a half-life of only 200 ms.
