That being said, let’s talk about… Luddite: A person opposed to new technology. origin: Named after Ned Lud, one of the workers who in 1811-1816 destroyed machinery which they thought was threatening their jobs.
the Course Reflection From taking this course, I appreciate: • My professors – very passionate and helpful • My classmates • Learning about blogs and wikis • Where/how to find technology tools on the web • The assessment timeline
Things I still question: • Understanding By Design • Seems very time consuming • Technology • The impression that the use of technology should be front and center in most lessons.
Essential Beliefs (not changed from original essential belief statement) I believe that physical education should teach/guide students to: • have self-esteem and confidence in themselves when moving and playing. • have knowledge of skills – verbal and/or physical. • enjoying moving and playing. • take care of each other.
Essential Questions and Answers • How do you create a professional learning community that is committed to students and their learning? • A professional learning community must have: • A dedicated staff • Communication • Professional development opportunities • A strong school vision that is embraced by staff and students
2. Why is it important to consider the backward design model when designing curriculum, instruction, assessment, and technology integration? • The backward design model guarantees that the goals will be achieved.
3. Why do effective practices in technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge promote student learning? • Teaches to all types of learners.
4. How do you design an engaging unit that integrates technology to ensure learning for every student? • Use technology wisely • design a lesson around the content using appropriate technology to highlight as opposed to picking the technology you want to you then designing the lesson around it.
Is my thinking changed after taking this course? Understanding By Design: In terms of designing unit and lesson plans using the UBD model, I’m not sure if my thinking has changed. UBD does seem time consuming but, I’ll hold off on my opinion until after I teach my unit in January. Technology: In terms of using technology in my classroom, I would like to try to use it more. Finding and using technology is tough at the K-2 level.
