Non Traditional Local Workers Culture from state to state • What kind of industries are closing their business? • Paradigm shifting i.e. fishing, hunting, golf, • What United Way Agency groups have Employment Training Programs? • What has not worked in the local area?
Non Traditional Local Workers Military resources in the area? Hiring “transferable skill” veterans or retirees in their profession
Non Traditional Local Workers Local Hispanic Population In our area we have a high percentage of Hispanic, so I helped create and customize a “Basic Plant Safety” ESL training program to prepare a high pass ratio for construction workers. These workers are legal to work in the U.S. and already have necessary skills from their respective country i.e. Peru, Colombia, Mexico etc. The only piece they needed was a bridge to be able to pass the safety council certification, fill out a job application , communicate in a plant environment, to include responding to crisis and emergencies in English
