  5. Meet your instructors! • Annette Granillo • Grew up in Deming, NM • Enjoys learning about political, sport, and organization communication • Comes from a family of teachers • In her free time enjoys traveling, photography, sports, working out, fashion, and spending time with her family

  6. Meet your instructors! • Caroline Zamora • Born and raised in Las Cruces. • B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Forensic Psychology from NMSU. • Interested in Political Communication. • Hopes to start an on-line magazine with my degree.

Meet your instructors! • Christopher Sarno • Earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from Georgia State University in Atlanta. • Worked in higher education for the past five years. • Ultimate goal is to become a full-time college professor. • In his free time he enjoys writing and spending time with his three dogs.

Meet your instructors! • Ginny Van Doren • Completed her undergrad at NMSU with a Bachelors in Marketing and a minor in Advertising. • Is working towards a career in the entertainment industry as an event marketer. • In her spare time she enjoys traveling, crafting, and being involved in the community.

  10. Meet your instructors! • Marcia Bardwell • Graduated in May 2012 with my major in Communication Studies. • Originally from Iowa but settled in Las Cruces 27 years ago. • Plans to be a teacher after obtaining master's degree.

  11. Meet your instructors! • Maria Molina • Born in Quito-Ecuador and came to the United States in 2008. • Graduated with a double major in Broadcasting and Corporate Communication from West Texas A&M University.

  12. Meet your instructors! • Michael Sandoval • BA in Creative Media from NMSU • Wants to earn PhD in Psychology. • Interested in studying the social interactions across cultural barriers via media. • Spent much of his life traveling up and down the East Coast and parts of Canada.

  13. Meet your instructors! • Rita Nassuna • Ugandan native. • Wants to work as a broadcaster. • Enjoys reading biographies, jogging, watching figure skating and traveling.

  14. Meet your instructors! • Sara Samani • Native of Las Cruces, NM. • Graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and Communication Studies. • Likes zumba, watching comedy, and politics. • Her favorite tv show is the office and parks and recreation. • Her goal in life is to become a high school teacher

  15. Meet your instructors! • Sarah Selwyn • Plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Human Communication and Gender Studies. • Interested in studying the way gender and religiosity are emphasized through communication across different cultures. • Hopes to become a research professor.

Meet your instructors! • Whitney Hughley • Originally from New Kensington, Pennsylvania • Interested in studying organizational communication & wants to work in sports, particularly in the NFL • Fun fact: She busted eye vessels, suffered headaches, laryngitis & fractured 3 toes cheering for the Steelers.

  19. Intro to communication field • Communication enables us to: • Have relationships • Have cultures that inform our sense of self • Form organizations and institutions that make civilized society possible • Share and accumulate knowledge making scientific progress possible

Intro to communication field • Taking this class and studying communication will help you become: • A better job candidate • Better in all relationships with those who matter to you most • Better able to understand and communicate with those from other cultures • A better persuader • Better informed how advertising affects you and what techniques advertisers use • A better speaker • A better critical thinker • Better informed on how the world works
