How to write a Limerick • They are five lines long. • Lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme with one another. • Lines 3 and 4 rhyme with each other. • They have a distinctive rhythm (which I’ll explain shortly) • They are usually funny. 1. There was an old man of Nantucket2. Who kept all his cash in a bucket;3. But his daughter, named Nan,4. Ran away with a man,5. And as for the bucket, Nantucket.

  6. Write your own limerick Write your own limerick on a piece of paper. Follow the formula. When you are done, get a piece of white paper and write your limerick on there neatly and large enough to read (take up most of the paper).
