Ottoman Empire The Ottoman empire was Muslim. Muslims followed Islamic law, but they allowed other religions to practice freely in conquered areas. Suleyman the Lawgiver was the most successful Ottoman ruler. He converted, educated, and trained Christian boys to from his own personal army. law and government Suleiman the Lawgiver
Safavid Empire • Began in Persia or present day MiddleEast. Shah Abbas
Safavid Empire The Safavids followed the Shi’itebranch of Islam. Safavid kings were known as shahs The most successful ruler was Shah Abbas.He promoted religious tolerance but used fear to keep power. He killed or blinded many of his sons in fear that they might try to overthrow him. The empire crumbled shortly after his death. religion
Mughal Empire • The Mughal Empire included what is mostly present day India.
Mughal Empire Babur became king at eleven years old. He expanded the empire with his military. Babur’s grandson, Akbar, also expanded the Mughal empire. He also kept peace in his empire by allowing people to practice different religions. ShahJahan was a later leader that is known for building the TajMahal as a memorial for his dead wife.
