Development of CMA’s GTS system • 1980-1990 • The first generation CMA’s GTS system started operation in 1980 • 6 GTS circuits connected with Beijing • Ulan Bator, Pyongyang, Moscow, Hanoi, Tokyo, Offenbach • 1991-2005 • The second generation CMA’s GTS system put into operation in 1991 • RTH Beijing designated by WMO in 1993 • The number of GTS circuits grew to nine • The new links to Seoul, Bangkok, and New Delhi established • Circuit rate and protocol upgraded • Migration to TCP/IP completed on the links to Offenbach, Tokyo, Moscow, Seoul, Ulan Bator • 2005.4 • The third generation CMA’s GTS system put into operation

Current Status of CMA’s GTS System —— Configurations and Functions of the GTS system • A firewall set up on the IP based connections • X.25 circuits and asynchronous circuits connected to the system via a multiprotocol router • Computer systems • The front end and the back end are two separate systems. • Each system is a duplicated system. • UNIX based • Application Software • Front end • collecting and disseminating data over GTS • Supporting FTP, TCP sockets, X.25, ASYNC • Back end • checking data • packaging messages and files • distributing data to the other internal operational systems, such as real-time database. • Operational monitor system • monitoring and managing the application system • C/S based software • running on Linux based PCs • Web Server • located in the DMZ of CMA’s Internet system • providing real-time observations and CMA’s products to national and international users • collecting meteorological data from other GTS centers by FTP, Web Ingest and E-mail via Internet

Requirements on ATOVS data • We hope that we could get NCEP’s ATOVS data on real time via GTS: • NOAA 15,16,17 ‘s 1B global data. • 3*14 Orbits/day. • 40channels/Orbit(include: HIRS, AMSU-A, AMSU-B) .
