Customer Boards Bus and Pays Fare Fare box equipment accepts: • Cash fares • Transfers – magnetically encoded with expiration time • Passes – magnetically encoded with valid dates • 10-Ride Cards – automatically deducts rides • One-Day Pass product – may be purchased from Operator • 2-4-$6 Pass product – may be purchased from Operator on Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays Fare box equipment records: • Fare media by type (i.e., 31-Day, UW Employee, etc.) • Fare media by expiration date • Fare media by time of day and location.
Internal Stop Announcements • Both audio and visual internal stop announcements • 1,090 bus stops have been programmed for internal announcements, representing approximately 50% of all Metro bus stops • These announcements keep Metro in compliance with ADA and Transit & Parking Commission policy • Time and Date display added in Fall of 2006

Automatic Passenger Counters (APC’s) • Infra-red Beams Provide Accurate • Boarding & Alighting Passenger Counts • Beams are located in stairwell at front & rear doors • 40 fixed-route buses equipped with APC’s are rotated throughout the route system every four days • Information may be tracked to the bus stop location level for route & schedule planning purposes • Provides federally mandated ridership data
AVL Playback Feature • Used to evaluate the on-time performance of revenue service • Provides Transit Scheduler with more accurate information to determine travel time between scheduled time points • Playback Module is Extremely use for Passenger Complaint Resolution, especially schedule adherence issues.
