  4. DiversionsAllied Forces use diversions to confuse the Nazis

  5. Questions to Consider • Why do you think the Allies invaded Normandy instead of another area? • Why would the allies use inflatable tanks? • What is the goal of the invasion?

  6. Allied Forces Allies will invade by land, sea, and air Plan consist of aerial bombardment, paratrooper landing, amphibious vehicles, ships, infantry, tanks, and heavy artillery

  7. Beaches • Omaha- American • Utah- American • Gold - British • Juno- Canadian Forces • Sword – British Allied Strength • 160,000 soldiers landing • 24,000 paratroopers • 5,000 ships

  9. Airborne Assault • Allies 101st Airborne and 82nd Airborne divisions land behind Omaha and Utah Beach to sabotage Nazi defenses • Mass Confusion and Chaos- airplanes break formation, troops scattered throughout France • Proves beneficial
