EC GIG IC Exercise • EC GIG: AT, BG, CZ, HU, RO and SK • Results reported to EC JRC • EC GIG countries shall now ensure that results are taken into account appropriately • IC exercise in general successful – WFD requirements not fully satisfied Planned continuation of intercalibration exercise in the DRB – work plan developed
Continuation IC Exercise Intercalibration Gaps • Not all BQEs have been intercalibrated • only macroinvertebrates • IC of phytobenthos could not be finalised for all EC GIG countries and is ‘preliminary’ between AT & SK • IC of macrophytes could not be finalised for all EC GIG countries • WFD compliant assessment methods were only present for Austria and Slovak Republic • other countries are developing or have now finalised • Lack of data from (undisturbed) reference sites • Intercalibration Danube River
Continuation IC Exercise Work Plan • 2 continuation phases • November 2006 – mid June 2007 • January 2008 – end 2009 • Change of lead for intercalibration • Coordination no longer by ICPDR Secretariat but Danube country
Continuation IC Exercise Work Plan • Tasks of IC continuation • IC of all biological quality elements • use of assessment results from WFD compliant methods • inclusion of real reference sites • full intercalibration of the Danube River • participation of all Danube countries • Work plan adapted to timelines indicated by EC GIG countries • IC exercise continuation will • be based on current results/knowledge – improve current results • use existing IC methods (macroinvertebrates, phytobenthos) • develop new IC methods where needed (e.g. macrophytes) Results can be applied in the DRB as soon as intercalibration is completed.
