Greek Heroes • Heroes are generally leaders, putting the cause of their people before themselves • In the Iliad the heroes leadership skills deteriorate because of pride, as they let their emotions overcome their actual beliefs • Achilles and Hector, the book’s heroes, were both feared by their enemies and revered by their companions; idolized on both sides of the war • As shown in this book, the greater hero is on the greater (victorious) and is an example to his people • Achilles is not as dedicated to the war as Hector, who is defending his home
