Background High School P.E(9-12) Two week lesson on softball Meet every M,W,F for fifty minutes. Focusing on throwing, fielding and batting throughout the two weeks. At the beginning of each new skill the students will be evaluated on their ability to perform that certain skill. The last day of the lesson there will be a softball game to evaluate improvement on all three skills.
Overall Lesson Plan Day 1 -Introduce the sport of softball to the class and go over prior knowledge of rules and regulations of the game. Day 2 -Briefly go over rules and regulations of the game. Then have a class meeting on what types of activities the students would like to do for each skill set (Throwing, Fielding, Hitting.) There will be three different types for each skill. Day 3 -Begin to teach the first skill which is throwing. Evaluate the students on their initial abilities.
Overall Cont. • Day 4 Main lesson - Introduce the second skill which is fielding and evaluate the students on their initial abilities. • Day 5 • Introduce the last skill which is hitting and evaluate the students on their initial abilities. • Day 6 - The final day of the lesson where there will be a softball game to determine overall improve of all three skills for the students.
Physical Education Objectives and Goals Lesson- Softball Main Goal: By the end of two weeks students will have the basic knowledge and skills to play in a game of softball. Objectives: - Students will be able to field a softball on the ground correctly. -Students will be able to field a softball in the air correctly. -Students will be able to play different positions while using the proper fielding techniques.
Adaptations Diverse Learners • For grounders and pop flies decrease distance and intensity. • Use adaptive materials or equipment; - Modified gloves -Modified balls
Advanced Students For grounders practice different fielding techniques; Using front hand and back hand. For pop flies increase distance, intensity and catching on the run.
Lesson • Review Pervious class period. • Warm up. • Review Throwing skills. • Introduce and demonstrate grounders and pop flies.
Lesson Cont. Practice grounders and pop flies. Skills assessment. Regroup, refresh and homework.
Homework • Each student will write or type 3-5 good qualities of hitting a softball. • Adaptations for Assignment: -Have assignment in students primary language. - M.R. Students may give assignment orally.
Student Evaluation • Students answer four short questions over how they felt the two week lesson went for future purposes of the classroom
