5. Gabriel’s life • Gabriel Charles Dante Rossetti was born in London on May, 1828, son of the Italian – born poet Gabriel Rossetti. • He grew up fluent in both English and Italian. • Rossetti was strongly attracted to the dramatic and the supernatural. • His art subsequently developed through other phases, in which the sense of human beauty, intensity of abstract expression, and richness of color were leading elements.

6. Gabriel’s works.. • Rossetti's early poems under strong Pre-Raphaelite influence, such as "The Blessed Damozel"(1850) and "The Portrait,"have an innocence and spiritual passion paralleled by his paintings of the 1850s. • As his interests in painting declined, Rossetti's poetry improved, until in his later works, such as "Rose Mary" , "The White Ship" and"The King's Tragedy", and the sonnet sequence "The House of Life“.

From perfect grief there need not be Wisdom or even memory: One thing then learnt remains to me, — The woodspurge has a cup of three.

15. Rossetti’s life… (1830 –1894) was born in England . She was a poet, who wrote a variety of romantic, devotional, and children's poems. She was the best known for her long poem Goblin Market, her love poem "Remember", and for her Christmas poem "In the Bleak Midwinter".

Rossetti’s life… • She started writing at age7. • She privately published her first collection of poems when she was only 17 years old. • Her brother, Dante Gabriel, probably had the greatest influence on Rossetti's early work. • She wrote some of her poems in her brother William's magazine the Germ was her only contribution to Pre-Raphaelite activities.

17. Rossetti’s life… • She wrote songs for children. • She was considered a possible successor to Alfred Tennyson as poet laureate. To accept the challenge, she wrote a royal elegy. • She found her highest inspiration in her deep religious faith. • She was a devout Anglican and lived the last 15 years of her life as a recluse in her home.

Rossetti’s style… • She had the ability to unite the devotional and the passionate sides of her nature. • The range of her verse was, naturally, somewhat limited by her preoccupation with religious subjects • Her favorite themes were unhappy love, death, and premature resignation. • Her poetry was strong, fantasy, and nature. • Rossetti's work has suffered from reductive interpretations, but she is increasingly being reconsidered as a major Victorian poet.

Counsel: 1- advice; opinion or instruction given in directing the judgment or conduct of another. 2-Theology. one of the advisory declarations of Christ, considered by some Christians as not universally binding but as given for aid in attaining moral perfection. Grieve: To feel grief or great sorrow. Corruption: the act of corrupting or state of being corrupt. Vestige: a mark, trace, or visible evidence of something that is no longer present or in existence

22. The analysis of the poem… This poem implies immediately a loving, yet sad, request. How Rossetti resolves the conflict she presents in the poem reflects the way she handled similar dilemmas in her own life—emotionally and philosophically, always letting her devout Christian beliefs be the deciding factor.

23. The Theme… 1-Is imperfect love in Rossetti’s “Remember” is an idea based on the more obvious and often used theme of religion in her works. 2-Christina was so devoutly centered on her Christian faith and love of God, the love of a man must seem second-rate, at best. 3-She seems honestly to love him and begs him to remember her when she is dead; on the other hand, she appears a bit nonchalant in her willingness to tell him to forget her just the same.
