Social Media • Social media is any form of online publication or presence that allows end users to engage in multi-directional conversations in or around the content on the website. • www.onlinematters.com/glossary.htm

Social Media in the Classroom • How could I use something that students use everyday to extend my classroom.
You have to get on their level • High School students use social media on a daily basis. In order to reach out to them you have to use a medium they can relate to?
What did I do? • I created a twitter account, www.twitter.com/m9economics
Why Twitter? • It is simple • 140 characters makes you keep it simple. • Hashtags (#) allow you to organize things. • It allows you to teach outside the classroom.
What is a Blog? • A blog (a contraction of the term "web log")[1] is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Using Blogs • Subscribe to the blogs you enjoy reading. • Subscribe to blogs that provide you with information you can use in the classroom. • Organize all these blogs in one place with a RSS or blog reader.
Blogreader • A blog reader allows you to be more efficient because your reading list is located in one place.
