MSHP Mission • To assist pharmacists in organized health care settings and to provide leadership that will allow pharmacy and pharmacists to: • Provide high quality pharmaceutical services that foster efficacy, safety, and cost effectiveness • Provide a positive relationship between health care needs of the public and the practice of pharmacy • Promote pharmacists as vital members of the health care team • MSHP strives to provide an interactive statewide environment whereby pharmacists can strive to achieve their full potential in scope of knowledge and provide supportive expertise towards quality patient care

Role of MSHP Board • Responsible for all business operations of MSHP • All of MSHP membership can participate in any of the things that MSHP does • Major board duties • Development of bylaws • Conference and Dinner Meeting organization, execution • State policy positions for national voting • Establishment of committees and/or volunteers for specific MSHP duties • Organize advocacy for MSHP • Make contributions of assets to other organizations for research and educational activities
President 1-year term Serve as chair and organizer of all Board Meetings Act as liaison between MSHP and ASHP Attend State Affiliate Presidential Officer Retreats Oversee all duties of MSHP
Other President Positions • Immediate Past President (1-year term) • Serve as an active board member • Provide guidance to current President • Serve as member to ensure continuity of activities and processes from one board to another • President-Elect (1-year term) • Serve as assistant to President • Directly engage in Conference planning • Learn about all MSHP functions and duties • Serve as President if current President unable to complete term/duties
Treasurer • 2-year term, may not serve more than 2 consecutive terms • Responsible for overseeing conservation and prudent investment of the assets and funds of MSHP • Develop and present budget • Review internal controls to ensure proper disbursement of funds • Maintain all accounting books • Checking and savings account • Bill payment • Collection of invoices • Work directly with Vendor Liaison and sponsoring vendors
Secretary Keep and maintain an accurate record of meetings Responsible for all official correspondence Oversee Social Media content of MSHP
Directors Voting members on all items of MSHP No directly specified duties in by-laws Pharmacy Technician member serves to represent all Pharmacy Technician members of MSHP
All of the following are elected Board/officer positions EXCEPT: • President-elect • Treasurer • Webmaster • Region 1 Director
Duties of the Treasurer include which of the following • Maintaining all financial accounts • Development of the budget • Working closely with Vendor Liaison • Submitting all State and Federal Tax documents • All of the above
Conferences Duties divided up between board members and regional directors Operations Future planning Content development – membership encouraged to participate Speakers Foster relationship development between pharmacists throughout the state
Scholarship • Five scholarships are awarded annually to pharmacy students in their professional years • Up to $5,000 total • 2019 winners • Denise Lyakhovic (Husson University) • Drew Cloutier (UNE) • Rachel Hanson (URI) • Lindsey Parmelee (UNE) • Kyle Williams (UNE)
Advocacy • In coordination with the Maine Pharmacy Association MSHP has been instrumental in influencing and testifying on behalf and against bills in the Maine Legislature • CDTM • Drug importation • Provider Status • Financial support is also provided when needed • An area we have identified for improvement
Vendor Relationships The organization would not be in the same form without vendor support Maintaining and forming relationships Workplace meetings Education about new drugs, clinical programs, and patient assistance are vital to pharmacy with our pharmaceutical partners
National Policy Making • Two delegates from the State of Maine (typically board members or directors) attend the ASHP Summer Meeting and are part of the House of Delegates • “HOD is the ultimate authority over ASHP professional policies, which express the Society's stance on important issues related to pharmacy practice and medication use in society.” • Recent Policy decisions • Discontinuation of four out of date policies • Unit dose packaging recommendations to FDA and manufacturers • Assertion of gene therapy utilization as part of the medication formulary system
Webmaster & Online Presence • Development and maintenance of MSHP’s digital platforms • Website development • Social media • E-mail & other communication • Financial management • Vendor utilization • Membership
