The European Parliament (1) • The European Parliament: • only directly-elected EU body • 766 Members • to represent the EU's 500 million citizens • elected once every five years • by voters from across the 28 Member States • 7 political groups • 24 official languages • all parliamentary documents are published in all the official languages of the European Union (EU) and every MEP has the right to speak in the official language of his/her choice

The European Parliament (2) • Committees: • 20 parliamentary committees • A committee consists of between 24 and 76 MEPs, • has a chair, a bureau and a secretariat • the political make-up of the committees reflects that of the plenary assembly • draw up, amend and adopt legislative proposals and own-initiative reports • consider Commission and Council proposals • where necessary, draw up reports to be presented to the plenary assembly • Parliament can also set up sub-committees and special temporary • committees to deal with specific issues

  9. XML production chain Non XMLized documents received are converted to XML Based on standard tools Resulting in a standard structure While it is possible to reconvert XML to DOC it allows for targeted editing, proposing amendments and different rendering.

  12. Amendments AT4AM and DST are web based applications. They are the entry points from where the user interacts with the systems being developed as a consumer of services provided by ESB.
