Gap Discussion • Consult publications like JAMA and JAOA for their articles, or specialty society publications • Insurance companies sometimes have health statistics/studies/articles/press releases on their websites • Alliance for CME handout
Gap Discussion • From there, your planning committee determines the educational need • If data shows that Ingham county has a higher incidence of colorectal cancer than other counties, then physicians need to know how to prevent, diagnose and treat. • If data shows that Michigan had 3.9 more deaths / 100,000 than the national average for diabetes-related deaths, maybe physicians need to know more about monitoring and warning signs. • If it’s reported that Michigan has been selected to participate in a pilot project on patient-centered medical homes, then physicians need to understand how their offices, their patient care processes and their communication with other providers must change.

Process Changes • Monthly mailing to facilitators • Participant list will no longer be sent monthly to facilitators only upon request or if they forget to keep a copy on file. • Since we don’t do evaluations for every program, we don’t have analysis reports. Hopefully this will prove to be cost efficient & a time saver. • Transcripts upon request • At the end of each year the Sparrow CME department mails transcripts to each individual that participated in a CME program. Effective immediately, the CME office will email transcripts upon request only. This practice hopefully will be proven to be cost efficient & more effective because of insufficient addresses. • An Email will be sent out to Sparrow people before the end of the year explaining our new process.
Next Steps • Surveys • December – Biannual surveys for our regularly scheduled series • January – Annual CME office survey • Reporting • January – 2010 activity summary
