  1. Reading Weather Maps

  2. Air Mass • Huge chunk of air with the same temperature and humidity • Usually means bad weather

  3. Cold Front • Cold air collides into warm air • The warm air mass gets pushed up quickly Clouds and rain form Front moves fast

  4. Cold front http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdgqkc2YJ1Q&feature=related

  5. Warm front • Warm air mass collides into cold air mass • Forms clouds, rain, and snow may form and fall for many days • Warm fronts move slowly

  6. Warm front http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FgXvKx5Weg&feature=related

  7. Stationary front • A front that is NOT moving • Cold front on one side and warm on the other- do NOT collide • May cause clouds and rain

  8. Stationary front

  9. Occluded front • When two cold fronts overtake a warm front- lifts warm front • Clouds and rain form • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPC5i6w3yDI

  10. OCCLUDED FRONT

  11. High air pressure H • Good/ sunny weather! • The air above you is falling and compressing. • Air is dense • Air gets dry and “soaks up the water vapor” • Clouds evaporate

  12. Low air pressure L • Bad weather is on the way • The air above you is rising and expanding =less dense • Air can’t hold water vapor anymore • Clouds form and maybe rain • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjODDPznqNM
