  4. Enduring Understanding • A big idea with enduring value • At the heart of a discipline • Involve “performance” • Require “un-cover” an abstract concept, a myth, a misunderstood idea • Use higher-order thinking skills • Potential for engaging students

  5. Creating an EU • Which one(s) is an EU? • 1) A balanced diet and good eating habits directly impact on the health of a person. • 2) It is important to identify all the food names • 3) Culture and traditions influence food selection, customs and preparation.

  7. Creating EQ • What are good eating habits, why do we need them? • How does geography affect food preparation? • How does traditions influence food selection?

  8. A Thematic Unit • Looks like a ‘web’ • Has a thematic center • A theme branches into topics and sub-topics • Each topic becomes a lesson • A culminating activity is a summative assessment
