  1. GCSE OPTIONS Philosophy and Ethics

Everybody in the UK has to do some form of EPR until the end of year 11 so even if you do not choose it as an option you will still do a GCSE in years 9-11 in one lesson a week. • Option One: • GCSE Philosophy and Ethics • (Extended Content) This means: • More topics covered • Choice of exam questions at the end of year 11 • 3 additional lessons of EPR per week • Ultimately a better GCSE grade!

Why study GCSE Philosophy and Ethics? • Religious Studies • is a lively and stimulating GCSE subject which involves lots of debate and discussion. • develops social, cultural, political and historical awareness • encourages philosophical thinking and decision making skills • enables students to discuss and analyse topics in the media • helps students to develop their own values and respect for others

Option Two: • GCSE and A Level Philosophy and Ethics • (Fast Track) This means: • GCSE in year 9! • 3 additional lessons of EPR per week • Ultimately a better GCSE grade! • But…ALSO… • You will be completing a full A LEVEL in years 10 and 11. • This option is for more able students only. (Level 5a+ in your EPR Hinduism assessment)

  5. What jobs are Philosophy and Ethics good for? • Any job where you need to be able to: • Articulate an opinion or point of view clearly and concisely • Think rationally, ethically and methodically about important issues • Evaluate situations/ Critically analyse text • Understand and have an awareness of other cultures and viewpoints • E.g. ARMY/ MEDICINE/ TEACHING/ MANAGEMENT/ LAW…etc. etc. • Basically…Any job!

  6. The course is assessed with 4 one hour exam papers at the end of year 11. There is no coursework.
