Long opening hours and school holiday programmes

The Voluntary Sector • There to meet local need • Lots of variety in shapes, sizes • Often form a committee – chairperson, secretary, treasurer etc. • May be run by unpaid volunteers • Often hire the facilities rather than have their own • Socially important to the country as not everyone can afford to join private clubs • Important to improve levels of participation amongst the community

  6. Partnerships • Sometimes the private, public and voluntary sectors work together • Councils may invite companies to submit TENDERS to run facilities........the lowest bid usually wins the contract • Voluntary sectors may hire their facilities and/or receive sponsorship from the public sector • A sports facility e.g. belonging to a school (private) may work with the local council (public) to provide a facility in the evenings and weekends
