  1. MOBILE TECHNOLOGY Paving for the Future

  2. Mobile Technology? What do we think (Before)? • Digital Cameras. • Mobile Phones that only called and texted. • Laptops. • Cameras that used film.

  3. Mobile Technology? What do we think (Now)? • Mobile Phones with multimedia. • Multimedia Cameras. • Wireless connection for cameras to printers. • Slim laptops with wireless connections.

  4. Mobile Technology? • But this is the biggest form of mobile technology: • The iPad.

  5. Differences of ICT 2010 2013 Mobile IT Suite (laptops). All classrooms with IWBs. All teachers with personal iPads for recording and photos. iPads used by pupils and staff to further learning. • Fixed IT Suite. • All classrooms with IWBs. • All teachers with digital cameras for recording and photos.

  6. MOBILE TECHNOLOGY IN PONTARDDULAIS PRIMARYSCHOOL • In three years, there have been many changes. • Even today, changes are to happen within the school environment. • Just compare the following lists:

  7. Why use iPads andMobile Technology? According to www.ipadineducation.co.uk, iPads: • ‘will help to personalise learning’. • ‘time is wasted not being able to ‘log in’’ as there is no network . • Outdoor learning can be introduced thanks to ‘Wi-Fi throughout the school buildings’. • iPads need little maintenance.

  8. Why use iPads andMobile Technology? • Learner, teacher and school in control of their technology. • No more ICT suites. • New and innovative software which reflect the learner’s needs. • Saving files takes place automatically. • The iPad can be an ‘anywhere anytime’ learning device. • The iPad is a Personal Learning Studio. • Click to see the website.

  9. How can we make it successful? We must learn how to do it ourselves. Taken from Apple in Education Bett Edition January 2013 What makes it Successful?

  10. Inset day

  11. Opinions We miss the old ICT suite, everything was easier to teach. The iPads enable aids for one to one support as it is unique to each child. We no longer have LAN on the laptops to keep track of what children are doing. We can learn outside and record for Eco Committee with iPads. The Laptops allow for more individual work. Click to see opinions from different schools in Apple in Education Bett Edition January 2013.

  12. Pros and cons There are pros and cons to everything. There are many different views on the use of iPads and mobile technology in school. A teacher posted his views of the pros and cons on www.guardian.co.uk, as shown on the next slide. Use this link to follow in detail on the website. Pros and cons

  13. Pros and Cons Pros: Ease and speed of use and accessibility. Audio visual (AV) tools (camera, video and voice recorder). Books: able to annotate, highlight and look up the meaning of words. Creativity: Endless possibilities to be used creatively. Cons: Adobe’s Flash and Javascript can’t be used. Multitasking: multiple ‘windows’ or files cannot be kept open, side-by-side unlike on computers. Word processing: limited … to word process on.

  14. Ease of Setting up • An iPad is easy to set up. • Simple steps. • Can be tailor made for individual. Setting up iPad

  15. Maintenance • Nothing is perfect. • iPads need regular maintenance. • Remove background apps for better use. Maintenance

  32. Conclusion iPads and Apple TV can be very beneficial. It is a fun, hands-on form of learning that can be catered to everyone’s needs. Do not become too reliant on it. Children still need basic handwriting skills, they still need to have the feel of a book.

  33. Conclusion Not the centre of education. Children still need to use actual materials Must be an aid. Not the basis. Apple in Education Bett Edition January 2013
