I would pick this scenario because I wouldn’t want to take a different route and end up like the Donnor Party. I would feel more safe on a established route. It would cut the % of getting lost. Jealousy
I would want to ranch more in the far west of the Great Plains. But farm more in the East on the Great Plains.
Why I didn’t choose option 3. (Go to California in search of gold) Because it would be a longer way to California then the Great Plains. I wouldn’t want to get gold I could make more money by finding gold but I could only do placer mining. So after that I would have to find a different place to mine and that could be a problem. So all in all farming would be the smartest decision.
I would want to build a homestead because you would have a fresh new life. But there is some down sides to all of this going out West. But a lot people still did it and some of them succeeded. Then you need to pick out a good piece of land.
