Service user’s seminar Aims and objectives. This ‘Service user’s seminar’ will enable students to: 1) Gain an insight into the 'lived' experiences of those experiencing/who have experienced mental health issues (e.g. what it is like to hear voices, have psychotic episodes etc.

Service user’s seminarAims and objectives • This ‘Service user’s seminar’ will enable students to: • 1) Gain an insight into the 'lived' experiences of those experiencing/who have experienced mental health issues • (e.g. what it is like to hear voices, have psychotic episodes etc. • How these experiences impact on everyday life. • How others react to these experiences (e.g. family, friends, work colleagues, professionals). • 2) Gain an insight of what mental health services are like (inpatient and outpatient). • Also what the different professionals working in mental health services are like. • Consider what the barriers to effective mental health service delivery are. • Students will • 3) Hear about personal experiences of particular types of interventions (e.g. CBT, psychodynamic etc) • 4) How can you help someone with a mental health difficulty? • 5) Reflect on the importance of including service users in research and teaching • 6) Have a chance to ask questions • This is an interactive session so please come prepared to get stuck in and get involved.
