2. Constantine • First Emperor to convert to Christianity. • Moved the capital of the Roman Empire to a former Greek trading city known as Byzantium. • Renamed Byzantium after himself: Constantinople.

Location was perfect for trade After some sprucing up, it was renamed Constantinople (because only the best emperors get stuff named after them) Emperor Constantine liked it, so he decided to move the capital of Rome here This place is much better than Rome!
