Latitude: a geographic coordinate that specifies the north-south position of a point on the Earth's surface. Longitude: a geographic coordinate that specifies the east-west position of a point on the Earth's surface.
Equator: An imaginary circle running east and west around the middle of the earth, dividing it into hemispheres. Prime Meridian: An imaginary circle running north and south around the middle of the earth, dividing it into hemispheres
Hemisphere: Half of a sphere, i.e. the northern hemisphere, southern hemisphere, etc. Compass Rose: A symbol that tells you where the cardinal directions – north, east, south, west – are positioned.
Bay: Part of a large body of water that extends into a shoreline, generally smaller than a gulf Gulf: Part of a body of water that extends into a shoreline, generally larger and more deeply indented than a bay
Plateau: Area of flat or rolling land at a high elevation, about 300-3,000 feet Basin: Area of land drained by a given river and its branches; area of land surrounded by lands of higher elevation
Plain: Area of level land usually at a low elevation and often covered with grasses
