Introduction • Ubisoft (EW-bee-soft) is a very large French video game developer and publisher • I have chosen Ubisoft for my developer because of its interesting logo, successful games and because the company is the fourth largest video game company in the world since 2009
Founding Members. • Ubisoft was founded in 1986 by the 5 brothers of the Guillemot family in Brittany France; Claude, Christian, Yves, Michel, and Gerard. • The family had created a farming business selling cider and apples which had been successful, producing sales of up to 17 million Euros per year, and the Guillemot's parents agreed to provide backing for their sons to begin their own business which became theGuillemot Corporation. • In 1986 Yves Guillemot, at the age of 26, was elected President Of the family business which is Ubisoft by his 4 loyal brothers. • Yves Guillemot also became the France Entrepreneur of the year in 2010.
Size of company • The Company is now a global business with offices and studios in twenty eight different countries including France, Germany, United States and United Kingdom. Some offices were founded by Ubisoft, others were gained over time. • Since 2009, Ubisoft had added much more than 5,000 employees, More than 4,000 of which all are working in production. • Ubisoft Montreal is currently Ubisoft’s largest development studio which in the year 2004 employed roughly 1,600 people. • As Ubisoft the fourth largest video game company in the world as of 2009, Ubisoft studios employs the second largest amount of in-house development staff in the world and has many offices throughout the world.
Company Development • In the early 1990s, Ubisoft started its own in-house game development program which led to the 1994 opening of a studio in Montreuil, France; this has also become their headquarters. • In 1996 Ubisoft became a publicly traded company and continued to grow with offices around the world, which opens locations in Shanghai and Montreal. • In 2000, Ubisoft gained Red Storm Entertainment. • On 8 July 2008, Ubisoft brought Hydride Technologies, a Montreal based studio famous for its expertise in creating visual effects for cinema, television and advertising. The company was created over 15 years ago, and employs 100 team members. The studio’s projects include such groundbreaking films as, Frank Miller’s Sin City, The Spy Kids series and 300. • On 10 November 2008, Ubisoft gained Massive Entertainment from Activision.
Sales • In 2010 Ubisoft announced a 17.7 percent loss in annual sales to €871 million ($1.08 billion), and revealed a loss of €43.7 million ($54.02 million). • The sales of ubisoft were falling 18 percent over the full year of 2009. • In 2009 the publisher also said that Assassin's Creed II has reached nearly 9 million units sold during the financial year. • Yves Guillemot of Ubisoft had said in a statement, “The global economic crisis had a pronounced impact on the video game industry in 2009, which contracted by nearly 10 percent year-on-year”
Games that have been developed. There are many games that you might associate with Ubisoft. Ubisoft is responsible for many financially successful video games including the Assassin’s Creed series, Prince of Persia series, Raman series and Rayman’s spinoff Raving Rabids series and Splinter Cell series. Reviews • I think that a lot of Ubisoft games are a massive success Including Assassins Creed Brotherhood and the Prince of Persia series which both are very sophisticated and complex. • The gameplay and graphics are featured in vast open worlds full of stuff to do and are never as simple as say Space Invaders where you just zap aliens in each round.
