EPIPHANY. The western churches celebrate the Epiphany as a “Manifestation” (from Greek “Epiphanzia”) of Jesus, represented by the Magi kings’ arrival. Eastern churches, instead, think of this holyday as the feast of Jesus’s Baptism (that is their Christmas day).

  1. EPIPHANY The western churches celebrate the Epiphany as a “Manifestation” (from Greek “Epiphanzia”) of Jesus, represented by the Magi kings’ arrival. Eastern churches, instead, think of this holyday as the feast of Jesus’s Baptism (that is their Christmas day). The Magi kings were scientists and theologists. ITALIAN TRADITIONS: THE OLD WITCH (BEFANA) During the night between the 5th and the 6th of January, according to the Italian tradition, some people used to disguise themselves as ugly old women in order to obtain some food, in exchange smiles and sincere good wishes. Nowaday this feast has a cultural value: it is also a symbol representing the cyclical flowing of time.
